The name Doutta Galla

In 2010 Doutta Galla Community Health conducted a Communication Framework Study. This led to a new brand identity reflecting our position as a proactive and inclusive organisation characterised by strong leadership and innovative health.

It was decided that the words Doutta Galla would continue as part of our name.

The history of the name Doutta Galla is unclear but was originally rumoured to have come from the Aboriginal words Dutti Gala which means treeless land.

In 1888 a hotel was built in the area and named the Doutta Galla Hotel. Due to its close proximity to the Flemington Racecourse it was often full of Melbourne Cup punters and Royal Melbourne Show attendees. This hotel still stands today.

The name Doutta Galla was also conferred on the district of settlement by Batman and was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Council until 2006.

For us Doutta Galla is a quality, well-established community health organisation that is growing from strength to strength into the future.
