Nurses at Doutta Galla Medical Practice

When a client visits the medical practice for the first time they are initially meet by the clinic nurse. The clinic nurse discusses any issues with the client and starts the client’s assessment in preparation for the doctor (GP).

Appointment time
An appointment with the clinic nurse will take approximately 15 minutes, followed by 30 minutes with the GP.

Emergency and urgent presentations
The clinics nurses also to provides an acute assessment of emergency, sick clients and help GPs.

The Immunisation nurse is able to administer immunisations independent of a GP.

For children
The immunisation nurse can do health assessments for four-year olds and this usually will take up to 45 minutes to complete.

Appointment time
For all routine immunisations an appointment with the immunisation nurse will take approximately 30 minutes.

A cervical screening, (pap smear) and breast screening nurse is available and able to see clients. Clients may make an appointment with the nurse if requested or preferred.

The health assessment nurse is a specialist nurse with an interest in chronic diseases – diabetes, cardio vascular and asthma.

The health assessment nurse provides a full medical check-up and health assessments with an emphasis on prevention and management on behalf of the GP in preparation for the client’s consultation.

Routine health assessments available at the practice are:
(free) Over 75 year old health assessment, this is an annual assessment.
(free) 45- 49 year old health assessment, this is available to clients between 45-49 years and available as a single session.

Appointment time
An appointment with the health assessment nurse will take approximately 45 minutes and 15 minutes with the GP, preferably on the same day.

The Refugee health nurse service is a free service for clients who meet the eligibility criteria under the refugee health nurse program.

The refugee health nurse works with the client’s GP on each client’s Refugee Care Plan.

Appointment time
An appointment with the refugee health nurse will take approximately one hour.

Mental health nurse clinics are a free service offered to clients who meet the eligibility criteria under the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program.

The mental health nurse provides a range of services to the client, including providing a full assessment and recommendations to the client’s GP. They assist the GP with the client’s mental health care plans, review cycles and care coordination

Clients must be seen and referred with a Mental Health Plan by a GP before visiting the mental health nurse.

An appointment with the refugee health nurse will take approximately 1 hour.
