Central City Community Health Service

The Central City Health Service (CCCHS) is operated by Doutta Galla in partnership with the City of Melbourne and a range of homeless health and support services and provides services for people living in or accessing the City of Melbourne who are experiencing homelessness, people who are at risk of homelessness, or living in low cost accommodation. All services are provided free of charge for these people.

This innovative health service provides a one-stop shop for people to gain access to a range of health and support services.

The services that are based at Central City CHS are provided by the following agencies; DGCHS, the City of Melbourne, the RDNS Homeless Persons Program, the Royal Women’s Hospital, Wintringham, the Medicare Local; Inner North West Melbourne Medicare Local, the Macedon Ranges and North Western Melbourne, the Australian College of Optometry, PILCH Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic and the North Melbourne Legal Service.

CCCHS Brokerage Funds are now available.

This funding has been provided by the City of Melbourne for vulnerable and disadvantaged people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness in the City of Melbourne. The funds aim to assist an individual or a family to address their needs to prevent or reduce the impacts of homelessness and improve their health or wellbeing. This may include emergency accommodation, specialist support and/or one-off provision of aid or resources.

Applications can be made by completing the Central City Community Health Service Brokerage Application Form that is attached (and available from CCCHS and on the DGCHS CCCHS website) and faxing it to 9650 2102 between 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday. The Guidelines for the Funding are also attached. Please specify any deadlines that you (or your client) have for receiving the money and call the Duty Worker at CCCHS on 9677 0800 if you have any questions.

Family Support is now available.

A family support worker with the City of Melbourne is now available to support women and families with children up to the age of 18. It is a free service and Shauna is at the CCCHS every Tuesday from 1.30pm - 2.30pm if you want to make an appointment.

Shauna can provide practical family support and counselling to families with complex issues and link families to specific parenting support,maternal and child health services, social support and community activities. The City of Melbourne Family Support and Counselling Program also provides group programs.

Phone Shauna on 9320 4717 for more information and referrals can be made by phoning Jenny, the Co-ordinator of Family Support and Counseling on 9320 4720. Appointments are available at other times at other sites or through outreach.

The PILCH Homeless Persons’ Legal Clinic (HPLC) and the North Melbourne Legal Service (NMLS) are providing free appointment-based outreach services at CCCHS.

The PILCH HPLC will be conducting 2 clinics a week at CCCHS from February 2013. The Clinics will be on Thursday and Friday from 11am - 2pm.

Appointments at CCCHS with a solicitor from HPLC please can be made through their central number FREECALL 1800 606 313.

The North Melbourne Legal Service (NMLS's) will be conducting a clinic every second Thursday from 11am to 2pm.

Three part-time Royal District Nursing Service Homeless Person’s Program Nurses and the homeless outreach programs of Doutta Galla Community Health are also based at the CCCHS.
