Mission Statement

Doutta Galla provides high quality, culturally appropriate and accessible primary, community and mental health services with a particular focus on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in the cities of Melbourne and Moonee Valley.

Chiron

Chiron is a medium to long term shared housing program, operating across 3 sites, in a number of housing configurations.

The aim of Chiron is:

  • To provide an environment that promotes the wellbeing and quality of life to its residents.
  • To offer affordable, stable housing with limited on site support

Chiron is available to adults who:

  • Are affected in their ability to live independently due to significant mental health issues.
  • Have complex needs and require support to live independently in the community
  • Live in or have links to the Melbourne and Moonee Valley local government areas
  • Need more support than an outreach service can provide and want to live in a group setting

The service model

  • Chiron works within the Colloborative Recovery Model fucosing in on the person life journey.
  • Reflects the Doutta Galla Community Health Integrated Model of Care
  • Provides a medium to long term home for residents
  • Works collaboratively to identify goals and develop individualised program plans
  • Assists with daily living skills eg. Meals, personal hygiene, shopping, banking etc. where required
  • Assists with maintaining and development of social and independent living skills
  • Promotes community participation
  • Assists with accessing a range of services and resources such as health, mental health, recreational, legal, and financial services
  • Referrals to other services as required

Funded by the Department of Human Services Chiron is a long term supported housing service for a number of clients across three sites.

Chiron is part of the Mental Health program at Doutta Galla Community Health providing a number of services to people who have psychiatric disabilities, are homeless or have other complex needs.
