Doutta Galla Community Health Service is a Company Limited by Guarantee with a Board of Directors drawn from members of the local community. The company seeks to appoint Directors with expertise in the areas of community services, law, finance, health, fundraising mental health and governance.
The Board consists of between five and nine Directors. Directors are either elected by DGCHS members or appointed by the Directors as outlined in the DGCHS Constitution.
The Board governs and directs the business of the company. The Board is responsible for setting the overall governance and strategic directions for Doutta Galla Community Health Service including developing the governance policies that make clear the boundaries within which the CEO will work. The CEO establishes, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, all operational policies essential for the effective management of the organisation.
Board Members serve a three year term. |

MARY MADDIGAN is the Chairperson of the board. Mary has lived in the Essendon area for 30 years and has been an elected Board Member of DGCHS since 2007. Mary is experienced in public sector administration and project management. Holding an Honours degree in psychology, she has a particular interest in mental health and well-being. Mary is keen to contribute to the key mission of DGCHS: to significantly improve the health, well being and quality of life in our community. |
CHRISTINE MOFFAT has lived in Kensington for 17 years and during that time as been an active community member in a range of community groups. She was a finalist in the Spirit of Moonee Valley awards in 2005. She initially trained and worked as a Nurse and more recently as Business Development manager for a large national retail organisation. This has given her experience and skills which she will be able to use in her role as Member of the Board. She believes that a community’s well being begins with all residents having access to quality community health services, particularly in the area of preventative health programs, with an emphasis on delivering services to people from CALD backgrounds. |

JOE GROHER moved to Melbourne with his family in July 2004 and is a resident in the CBD. He has been a Finance Professional for over 25 years and his involvement with Local Government complements the Board’s membership. His community involvement has been focused on education, being a member of the Board of Management and Chair of the Finance Committee at St Joseph’s College Geelong for many years. Joe is keen to continue his involvement with community based enterprises and work to ensure a sustainable and high quality service is provided to the community. |
HELENE MCNAMARA and her family have lived in Ascot Vale for 20 years. She joined the Board in 2001. Helene brings professional understanding of government funding and policy directions, contractual arrangements and systems involved in Health Services. She has 25 years experience in child and family welfare, disability services, parenting and TAFE. Helene has a personal commitment to the provision of supportive services and networks to the most marginalised and a long history of voluntary involvement in the community. |

TREVOR SINCLAIR was a Moonee Valley Councillor for almost nine years and was elected to the DGCHS Board in 2001. He was proud to be of assistance in the development of the new Niddrie Hub project which was officially opened in August 2006. This new Community Health Facility in the North West is of great benefit to the local community. Trevor has also has a long association with Lionsville, Essendon Adult Day Centre, Essendon Youth Accommodation Group and other groups. He is committed to working with the community. |
PHILIP TEMPLETON has been a resident of Flemington for over 18 years. He has been a Board Member of DGCHS since 2004. Philip has operated an Architectural practice in Flemington for 15 years and has been involved in many local Boards and community groups including Aged Care, School Council, RCH and Flemington Traders. He is currently the president of Flemington Rotary Club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for his services to the community in 2004. Philip was a finalist in the Spirit of Moonee Valley Community Awards in 2005. Philip has an ongoing commitment to the improvement of the lives of people in the inner North West of Melbourne. |

| MARLENE SHANAHAN has a personal and professional commitment to improving community life in the Doutta Galla Community Health Service area. She has lived in Moonee Ponds and North Melbourne for 30 years and with her family has been involved in Moonee Valley and Melbourne Council’s resident association, educational and family support networks. She is a retired School Principal who brings a keen interest in promotion of ‘quality service to all’ to the region. Marlene has been Board Member for 3 years. |
