Physiotherapists are highly trained health professionals who have special skills to assess and treat a variety of conditions such as:
- Muscle strains
- Joint sprains
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- After fracture
- After surgery to joints, bones, muscles
- Headaches (due to neck problems)
- Postural problems
- Incontinence
- Prescription of walking aids
- Balance and neurological problems
- Musculoskeletal problems before and after childbirth
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ACCESS PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICES? Anyone living, working or studying in the Cities of Moonee Valley & Melbourne is eligible for this service. If you are eligible for Work Cover, Department of Veteran Affairs or Transport Accident Commission and have private health insurance with extras, you will be referred to a private physiotherapist in the local area.
What does physiotherapy treatment involve? Physiotherapy treatment may involve the following:
- Manual therapy
- Electrotherapy
- Traction
- Exercises
- Taping
- Postural education and ergonomic advice
- Hydrotherapy
- Advice regarding physical activity, footwear, training for sport.
The aim of our service is to restore, maintain and promote independent phyisical function of our clients. An emphasis on self-management is practised. In general you can expect a maximum of 6-8 individual consultations with a physiotherapist. If required, you will then be referred into a group into a group exercise program, such as a pool or gym class for another 6-8 sessions, before discharge to a self-management program.
We also offer a range of water and land based exercise classes.
HOW DO YOU ACCESS THE SERVICE? You do not need a referral. You can make an appointment by telephone or in person. What are the hours of service?
8:30 am – 5: 00 pm Monday to Friday
Initial appointments may last up to one hour and ongoing appointments up to 30 minutes.
Physiotherapy is available at the Kensington, Moonee Ponds and Niddrie sites of DGCHS |
