SOCIAL WORK Social Workers are able to:
- Provide both Counselling and casework services.
- Assist with housing problems, advocacy and social support.
- Assist with information on other services, groups, support links etc.
COUNSELLING Our professional and trained counselling team includes Social Workers and Community Development Workers. Counsellors see people of all ages. Limited couple and child and family counselling is available. Appointments are only available during business hours. The issues most often addressed in Counselling include:
- Grief and loss
- Relationship difficulties
- Depression and anxiety
- Family relationships
- Life stage difficulties
- Trauma
- Domestic violence
- Childhood sexual assault
- Self esteem
If the Counsellors are unable to address particular issues, then a referral to a specialist service can be arranged. Counsellors are located across our different sites.
YOUTH WORK Our Youth Work program provides personal support and referral for young people aged 12-25 who live, work or recreate in the City of Melbourne area. A range of recreation and school based personal growth programs are also provided. The Youth worker can be contacted on mobile (0411 748 148), at the Kensington Site
BILINGUAL COMMUNITY WORK Community Access Workers provide support, advocacy and referral for specific groups. They work with individuals as well as providing group work and health information sessions which are arranged to cater for the needs of the following communities:
- Chinese speaking community
- Vietnamese speaking community
- African community
GROUP WORK Health & well-being groups are provided for the community throughout the year. Groups are great for exploring issues in depth in a safe, supportive environment. Group work can provide an opportunity to learn some new skills and meet other people who have been through similar experiences. For more information on any of these services phone either our Moonee Ponds or Kensington sites and ask to speak with the Intake Worker.NB: If there is a period of high demand there may be a waiting time before an appointment can be made.
EMERGENCY RELIEF This service provides limited food vouchers/ financial assistance to people with a Health Care card and who live within the following areas. Phone for an appointment. Niddrie site if you are a resident of Niddrie, Avondale Heights, Airport West, North Essendon, Strathmore and East Keilor.
OLDER ADULT/ COUNSELLOR General casework, group work, referral, advocacy and Counselling is available for people aged 65 plus and for carers of an aged person |
